rho was founded on a core belief: that everyone deserves a safe night's sleep. We wanted to create beautifully crafted, versatile products that were not only made ethically and from environmentally-conscious materials, but also had a positive social impact once they were bought. Loungewear that made people feel amazing however they decided to wear it, whilst knowing their purchase is helping to give someone else a safe night's sleep too.

We dream of helping as many people as possible through our business, and our partnership with domestic abuse charity Oasis is a big part of how we work towards that goal. From every single item purchased by you, we donate £5 to support their incredible work.

What is Oasis?

Oasis Domestic Abuse Service is a registered charity based in Kent, England on a mission to keep victims of domestic abuse safe, help rebuild lives, and create lasting change. Founded in 1994 by a handful of incredibly dedicated people, Oasis provides services to adults, young adults and children at their two refuges and within communities throughout Medway, East Kent — and now also North Kent after merging with their sister organisation, Choices. They are building a dedicated approach to not only intervening, but also preventing domestic abuse, and vow to keep working until the violence stops.

In 2020-2021 Oasis helped 785 people, of which 622 were adults and 163 were children. A further 376 people exited their services, with over 60% feeling a reduction of symptoms of trauma and anxiety.

Why is supporting work against domestic abuse so important? 

Domestic abuse is an incident or pattern of behaviour that uses power to control a person with whom the abuser has a personal connection. Abuse isn't just physical; it can be controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are or have been intimate partners or family members.

• 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime
• 2 women a week are murdered by their current or ex-partner
• 1 in 7 under 18's will have lived with domestic abuse in their childhood
• The Police receive 1 call every minute about domestic abuse

How our partnership works

In order to support Oasis in the running of their two refuges, their outreach and educational work, their intervention programmes, and all of their other services for adults, young people and children affected by, experiencing, or recovering from domestic abuse, we donate £5 to them from every single item we sell.

At the beginning of every month, we make our donation to Oasis based on the orders of the month before last, so that we have given everyone their 30-day return window. We also regularly spread the word about Oasis and the work they do through our social media channels and website, and try to help raise awareness about the important issues which they strive to end.

 

Ways to support Oasis

Donate — you can donate directly to Oasis via their website, or you can also donate to Oasis via our shop page. 100% of the money donated on our website will be received by Oasis.

Spread the word — follow Oasis on Instagram, engage with and share their posts, or simply talk about Oasis and what they do with your friends and family.

Volunteer — By volunteering you’ll be gaining new skills, building on what you’re already great at and gaining experience in different fields. But more than this, you will be supporting people at the point of crisis to become safe. Learn more about volunteering opportunities.

Visit the Oasis charity shop — Discover a gorgeous array of clothing, accessories, shoes, homeware, and more at the Oasis boutique charity shop in Margate. Every penny spent in the shop helps to support survivors of abuse. Find the shop on google maps here. Oasis also accepts donated items for their shop on the last Saturday of every month if you have good quality items you no longer need.

Buy rho loungewear — this one is bottom of the list as it isn’t the most direct way to support Oasis, but if you are already interested in buying something from us, you can find joy in knowing that £5 from every item you purchase is donated directly to Oasis.
