Hi, Hannah and Elena here, co-founders of rho 👋
We want to share with you more of a sneak peek of the realities of two friends growing a small business (including our recent win at the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards that made us shimmy 🎉)
Starting with our big why...
We want to help other have a safe night's sleep.
Did you know we donate £5 from every single piece we sell to Oasis Domestic Abuse Service?
That's our main reason for existing. We want to prove that a business can create amazing products people love AND help others.
Here are some of the best bits from our Marie Claire application that won us the much coveted highly commended award for Best Sustainable Small Business in the clothing category.
1. We donate £5 from every piece we sell to Oasis Domestic Abuse Service to support the vital work they do
This includes running two refuges offering families a safe night’s sleep, and providing an array of incredible support and prevention services.
2. We ensure the people who make the organic cotton and our loungewear have a safe night’s sleep
We ensure they are paid a living wage by partnering with a Fair Trade manufacturer Mehera Shaw and using only GOTS certified organic cotton.
The GOTS certified organic cotton ensures every person involved from the growing of the cotton to the spinning and milling of it is protected by the high quality GOTS environmental and social standards.
It is also better for the planet as it supports soil health, biodiversity and is a natural fabric that biodegrades.
3. We create a positive environmental impact by designing and creating products for longevity
We provide detailed care instructions and educational resources, such as ‘how to’ sewing videos, to encourage the proper care and prolonged lifespan of our products. We hope this can reduce textile waste and increase overall awareness of over consumption issues which have a huge planetary impact.
4. Each parcel has a plastic-free journey to our wonderful customers
We use only biodegradable and recycled or recyclable materials. In the future we would love to do more tracking of our environmental impact. We currently have a great partnership with One Tribe who protects five trees on our behalf for each person that joins our newsletter list.
Our biggest achievements so far...
The achievements we are most proud of are the donations we make to Oasis each month, our community, and the high rate of returning customers who love our products and support our ethos.
We have been featured in The Guardian, Stylist, Good Housekeeping, YOU Magazine, Condé Nast Traveler and more.
We are currently Good Market approved and have our sights set on becoming PETA-approved Vegan certified and B Corp certified one day.
